Giants start 2023 playoffs with 14th consecutive year with 1st round W
Giants send familiar playoff foe Mets with another season ending playoff loss!
Barba, Hernandez and Leija lead the way for the Giants victory over the Mets.
In a tight game from the start the Mets were looking for the upset. The Mets lefty Regner held the Giant bats at bay for most of the early game at Hamtramck Park.
Giant scoring started in the first with league avg and rbi leader Jessy Hernandez delivering a sharp base hit to score Alex "Dixonator" Dixon with the first Giant run to tie the game at 1 in the first.
Giants didn't score again till the 4th when Dixon led off with hbp on his 22inch Bicep. After stealing 2nd, Dixon scored on a Hernandez double off the centerfield fence. Knotting the score at 2.
Giants scored the game winner in the 8th with Jake Leija starting at 2nd. Rob Brenay connected with a shot to left scoring the walkoff run for the Giants.
Ozzie Barba started going 5 innings giving up 1 earned run on 5 hits. With a deep Giant rotation, Barba earned his first playoff W for the Giants.
Jake Leija league leader in strikeouts and innings pitched came in relief earning his 8th overall W for the season. Coming in relief in the 5th with runners on base, Leija struck out the final 3 with the bases loaded ending the Mets threat. Final line 3 innings 7 k's and a W.
