The previously winless Diamondbacks overcame a first-inning 2-0 deficit and unloaded for seven runs each in the third and fourth innings, then eight more in the fifth and final inning to crush the Zug Island Lugnuts 22-10 at Police Athletic League stadium.
Jeff Buller and Greg Chastang led the 23-hit attack with three hits each, while ex-Lugnut Tracy Conyer and Greg Hunt each had two hits and there were five D'backs walks.
The Lugnuts used three pitchers, all ineffective, but took advantage of eight hits and seven walks to produce their biggest run output in two seasons. The top two batters continued their assault as they have all season, with leadoff man Don Ukrainec going 2-for-3 with two runs and two stolen bases, followed by Mitch Katsuda with 2-for-2, with two RBI, a walk and two stolen bases.
The injury-riddle 'Nuts, who have yet to win this season, scored twice in the first inning and seven times in the fourth off multiple pitchers, adding a run in the bottom of the fifth of the time-shortened game. They've given up 42 runs in the last two games -- after a tight 5-2 loss to the Motor City Firebirds.
