Cardinal Bats Stay Hot in Second Straight Win
It rained at Hazel Park on Friday night. Actually it was more like hail the size of baseballs as the Cardinals sprayed 18 hits all over the field enroute to a 12-4 victory over the Red Sox to move their early season record to 2-1. Ed Collins was the benefactor of the run support, picking up his second win, pitching a strong 4 innings before giving way to Scott Watson and Stan Shedlowsky for the final 3innings.
Six Cardinals had multi-hit games to lead the offense. Shedlowsky was 2-4 with 1 RBI, Clint Berryman was 3-3 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored, Tim Sullivan was 2-3 with a walk and 3 runs scored (and a great tag on a relay throw to the plate), Kevin Tardivi was 2-2 with 2 RBI, 2 walks and 2 runs, Dave Feeny was 2-4 with 1 RBI and Collins was 2-4 with 3 RBI (thanks to Joe Zimmerman's hustle scoring from second on an infield popup). Zimmerman had the Chevy Drive of the Game with a launch angle blast to deep left that disappeared into the twilight and fell 5 feet from the leftfield fence, scoring two runs.
The Cardinals will go for their 3rd straight Monday night at pristine Capital Park diamond Monday night against the GL Tigers
