YANKEES WIN 2022 MSBL CHAMPIONSHIP OVER GIANTS!
Game sponsored by: David's Sunflower Seeds and reading comprehension of bold font signs
Waterford Mott was the setting for the winner take all game 3 of the upper division MSBL championship. The Yankees would throw Steve Simmons on the mound as they did for game 2 earlier in the series. The Giants would counter with a very good pitcher and dual threat in Victor Chavez. This would no doubt be a pitchers duel from the beginning.
However, the Yankees would be "ten toes down in Waterford" and "gettin' in poppin early" with a Eitniear single into CF, Zimmerman single, and a 3-run dead centerfield blast by Nicco Lollio to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead in the 1st. Remarks were made by an opposing manager asking if this was the first ever HR that Nicco hit. It appeared there was jealously on how far the ball was hit since the one making the remarks didn't make much of/ any impact in this series. Oh well. Saying silly words, sitting in dugouts, and paying others player fees are fun too I suppose.
In the 4th inning, the Giants would get their offense started with 3 singles by Bennett, Chavez, and Quintal to push across a run. The Yankees would answer right back with a Starks RBI single in the 5th and another RBI by Mike Decarlo in the 6th to give the Yankees a 5-1 lead into the 7th.
The Giants being the offensive juggernaut they are were not going down without doing what they do best. The Giants put up a double by Chris Yates and a single by pinch hitter Bo Ford to scratch another run across to make it 5-2. The Yankees would answer back again in the bottom half of the 8th with an RBI sac fly by Jared Janssen.
The game would go to the 9th with a score of 6-2. Simmons would elect to stay in to finish the complete game. The 9th would start with a walk, flyout to center, and a strikeout to take the Giants down to their last out. Quintal who had swung the bat well all series would hit a flyball to CF where Johnny Sparkplug Starks would secure the final out to give the Detroit Yankees the 2022 MSBL championship!
Simmons would notch the CG with a final line of: 9IP 7H 2ER 2BB (and one HBP) with 9K's.
On a side note: there is always friendly banter between teams in such a competitive league, but when a certain manager pokes the bear and motivates a certain pitcher said manager ends up in 2nd place and 0-2 with 2K's and said pitcher goes 3-0 against your team allowing 2ER in 24 innings :)
YANKEES ROSTER RECAP:
Austin Calopietro- would come in as an MSBL rookie hailing from Toledo University and would be the only Yankee picked up for a professional contract by the Utica Unicorns. In his brief time with the Yankees, Austin would sport a .333 average in 3 AB's and pitch 5 innings for a W while holding a 1.80 ERA. Austin was a team player and the Yankees hope he'll rejoin the squad next year if professional aspirations don't continue.
Tom Constand- would be a 3rd year MSBL player. Many would say Tom is the unquestioned ace of the Detroit Yankees. Tom would provide just over 62IP with a K/BB ratio of 107-16. Tom would also sport a 1.44 ERA with a 5-2 record and a save. Those losses being of a tough luck and undeserved variety. Additionally, Tom also provided a game winning single against the Red Birds in a standings-decisive game late in the year. Great season Tom!
Mike Decarlo- in his 3rd MSBL season Decarlo would man the hot corner and swing it in the DH spot for the Yankees. Mike had an outstanding middle of the year hitting what seemed like beach balls to him. Mike would end the season with 52AB and hitting a solid .308 with 9RBI.
Jack Dynes- would enter his 5th MSBL season as an elite backstop for the Yankees. Jack wouldn't have the season he wanted at the plate, but provided unmatched play behind the dish defensively and managing pitchers. Enjoy the honeymoon in South Africa!
Thomas Eitniear- would enter as an MSBL rookie from the University of Toledo. Eitniear would quickly show his gold glove at SS and elite ability to get on base. Eitniear would man the leadoff spot for most games where we sported a .382 average with 7 stolen bases. Eitniear was a plus leadoff hitter who also had a handful of web gem plays at shortstop.
Jared Janssen- would enter his 4th season in the MSBL. Jared would provide the punch in the offense hitting anywhere the Yankees needed him. Jared would end the season with 54 AB 4 doubles and 10 RBI while hitting .266. Jared would have liked this number to be higher, but line drives just found mitts late in the season. Additionally, Janssen provided top notch situational management for the Yankees and will no doubt be resigned for next year as a situational consultant/player.
Joe Leeming- would enter his 3rd MSBL season playing OF and pitching a game for the Yankees. Leeming would get 41 AB's and post 10 RBI with a .268 average. On the hill, Leeming filled up the strikezone to get a complete game dub while striking out 10 and only walking 1. Leeming would sport a 1.29 ERA the rest of the way.
Alex Leija- would enter his 3rd MSBL season as a highly touted pitcher and DH when needed. On the hill Alex would bring the cheddar with 26K's in 15 innings of work. Alex took two tough luck losses this year which were a product of dormant offense syndrome. Alex was a true dual threat as he posted a 3.60 ERA and .359 batting average with 14 hits and 4RBI.
Nicco Lollio (SWIS; Swingin' Italian Sausage)- would enter his 3rd MSBL season as the Yankees starting first baseman and power threat. Nicco would collect some massive hits that included 3 homeruns and a shit ton of wall ball doubles. Outside of terrorizing pitchers in his free time at the plate, Nicco would provide great leadership and experience to the Yankee lineup. Nicco would end the season with 57 AB, 20 hits, 3HR, 18 RBI and a .351 batting average.
Reid Olmstead- would be the nicest MF'er the Yankees lineup would ever see. Reid showed up to two games and completed two immaculate sits and keep a tidy scorebook to solidify the Yankees championship season.
Cory Osborne- would enter his 6th season as one of the Yankees backstops and outfielders. Cory would obtain reverse dad strength and hit one HR this year but he would tally a multitude of clutch hits to put the Yankees in position to win games. Most notably Cory provided the game winning 2B in the first game of the season against the Red Birds to secure a 1-0 win. Cory tallied 62 AB's with 20H 9RBI and sport a .323 average. Not to shabby for an old guy.
Jared Pingitore- would enter his 3rd MSBL season as an infielder and power bat for the Yankees. Jared would provide excitement in the infield with his hideous choice of eyewear and kick start the Yankee offense early in the year with the squad's first bomb to RF against the Giants at Ford Field. The bat would go quiet in the middle of the year until playoffs rolled around and Pingitore started playoffs with a grand slam blast to RF against the Devil Rays. Pingitore would go on to mash in the playoffs, secure 64 AB's, 20 hits, 19 RBI and a .313 average. Jared also got an inning and a third of pitching in to boot while having a 0 ERA.
Alex Pogasic- would enter his rookie year in the MSBL as a stud at 3rd base and at the top or middle of the Yankees order. Alex's enthusiasm for the game kept the Yankees spirits high all year. Objectively, Pogasic would be one of the Yankees best hitters and fielders as well. Pogasic would collect 77 AB, 27H, 7XBH, 18RBI and sport a .351 average. On the mound Pogasic had a breakout year despite not pitching as much as he wanted to or should have. Pogasic notched a 3-0 record, 26IP, 51K and a 0.34 ERA while only walking 7 batters.
Steve Simmons- entered his 5th MSBL season as the best #2 pitcher in the Detroit MSBL and the grim reaper of the Giants this year. Simmons would be a force on the mound and collect his share of BS hits this season to keep his average high. At the dish Simmons hit .326 with an identical slugging percentage due to him not benching pressing enough. On the mound is where Simmons shined as he produced a Cy Young season going 12-0 through 88IP while only allowing 3 earned runs all season. Most impressively, Simmons K/BB ratio ended the season at 174-12 which breaks the previous Detroit MSBL strikeout record he obtained in 2019. Simmons would end with an ERA of 0.31 after giving up a walloping 2ER in the last game of the season and doubling his earned run total. Simmons will no doubt be back as the Yankees #2 pitcher next year.
Johnny "Sparkplug" Starks- would enter his 2nd MSBL season manning CF for the Yankees in almost every game. Being one of if not the most dedicated Yankee, Starks was known for his arrival to games 6 hours ahead of time, speed on the basepaths, and elite defensive play in CF. However, Sparkplug would light it up in the playoffs becoming one of the Yankees best offensive threats while recording some huge clutch RBI hits. Starks would collect 61 AB, 16 hits, 8 RBI, 10 SB, and a .262 average. Most notably, Starks provided some web gem plays in CF to keep games close for the Yankees.
Jabari Thomas- entered his 7th MSBL season this year. The Yankees only saw him for two games early in the year where he tallied 6 AB and scored two runs due to professional ball out in the Pecos League for the Weimar Hormigas. The Yankees hope to get Jabari's bat back next year for the 2023 season.
Blaise Woods- would enter this season as an MSBL rookie who lives and breathes the game of baseball. Blaise did not have the year at the plate that he wanted to or that his sweet swing warranted due to his busy schedule, but Woods would be an assassin in RF/LF for the Yankees defensively by tracking down sure-hits to keep the Yankees rolling. Blaise also provided the Yankees with much needed speed in the lineup by swiping a couple bags.
Chris Zajas- would enter his 4th MSBL season as a defensive wizard in the middle infield. Due to limited action, Zajas would not post normal numbers at the plate for him, but provided sound defense for the Yankees when it was needed most.
Craig Zimmerman- would enter his 3rd MSBL season since moving from Madison, WI MSBL. Craig would be a force at the plate this season at the 2nd or 5th spot in the order for the Yankees. Zimmerman was routinely in the top 5 in the MSBL in hits and AVG throughout the season. Zimmerman would record 58 AB, 25H, and 16 RBI while hitting a whopping .431. Zimmerman would also record 6 doubles and routinely kickstart the Yankees offense when needed. Additionally, Zimmerman would get into trouble saying he injured his shoulder drunken arm wrestling before the championship series. This would be a joke and due to championships being won, Yankees management has decided to drop the $69.69 jackass fine. Great season Craig!
