Cardinals Tame Tigers to Win 3rd Straight
Rob Chafin still didn't get much run support, but it was plenty on this night as he tossed a 3-hit, complete game shutout, striking out 7 enroute to a 2-0 victory at Clawson Park Thursday night. The game was scoreless until the 4th inning when Darrin Clark lined a single to score Stan Shedlowsky, who had singled and stole second to make it 1-0. Chafin held down the Tigers offense and the Cardinals generously rewarded him with another run in the 6th inning. With one out, Dave Welch pulled a double down the left field line. After Clint Berryman walked, Shedlowsky hit a comebacker to the mound that looked like a sure double play, but he narrowly beat out the relay on a very close play at first as Welch moved to third with 2 outs. Welch then scored on a overthrow to 2nd as Shedlowsky was stealing to make it 2-0. That's all the scoring there would be as Chafin continued to stifle the Tigers offense, working around a 2-out 7th inning single to close out the win.

Cardinals Soar Over Angels
It was "organization night" for the Cardinals at Hazel Park Tuesday night. Thanks to the rainouts they had a 35/45 doubleheader. In the early game 35's beat the Mud Hens 6-0, but the 45's would not be outdone, defeating the Angels 13-2 in the nightcap. Two grisled veteran pitchers of the MSBL, Keenan Brown and Ed Collins held down the Angels, scattering 6 base hits, with Brown picking up the win. They were backed by plenty of offense as the Cardinals exploded for a 10-run 3rd inning, causing Pat Brainard to plea for mercy for his barking catcher's knees. Darrin Clark, Tom Borkowski and Glenn Triest drove in 2 runs apiece while Clint Berryman, Clark and Shane Pfannes had 2 hits each to lead the attack. The highlight of the evening happened between games with the team photo shoot and Berryman's Buffet table featuring Boar's Head cold cuts. It was a tasty night for the Cardinals organization.
